Same day dedicated courier, HBC Logistics, is proud to announce its Carbon Positive status in 2025 after three brilliant years of our sustainability journey – involving great partnerships, carbon neutral deliveries and exciting carbon-offset projects with local schools.
In September 2022, our sustainability journey began with our first official meeting with Carbon Neutral Britain – the UK’s leading carbon offsetting organisation, helping British businesses make an impact on climate change. After understanding the complexities of achieving carbon neutral status as a logistics operation, Carbon Neutral Britain offered us a way to proactively offset our deliveries. 
By offsetting through Carbon Neutral Britain, we have been able to effectively offer carbon-free deliveries by completing annual Carbon Audits undertaken via the ISO 14064 and GHG Emissions Protocol Accounting Standards – the two largest and most widely used corporate standards in the world. They make an accurate calculation on our footprint and then offset through certified carbon offsetting projects.
The projects supported by Carbon Neutral Britain are a variety of sustainability projects, from reforestation and woodland management to solar power, biodiverse forests and hydroelectric power. All carbon offsetting projects supported by Carbon Neutral Britain are verified to the highest standards via the three largest Carbon Certifications in the world – the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Gold Standard Voluntary Emission Reductions (VER), and the United Nations Certified Emission Reductions (CER) programmes.
Becoming beyond Net Zero: What is a Carbon Positive Courier?
Despite our achievement, we were eager to earn that positive status. That’s why, using any spare funds we collected from our Carbon Neutral scheme, we have been investing, funding and volunteering in several local sustainability projects. In the last year, we have donated over £3,000 to local schools to fast-track their environmental projects – from forest schools and gardening rejuvenation to beehive colonies. But money isn’t the only support we provided, as we have also helped with deliveries and volunteering. 
With plenty of exciting projects completed and upcoming, our further carbon-offsetting activity was developed with the intention to actively remove more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than we emit. This week, we can proudly announce that we have offset over 1,040 tonnes of CO2e emissions from 2024.
What does this mean for our customers?
It was important to us that a sustainability status impacted our customers positively. That’s why, our opted-in customers are able to obtain Carbon Statistic and Mileage reports for their own offsetting calculations, as well as an official participation Certificate. Our opted-in customers also get to have a say in the projects we fund with our carbon neutral fund pot. This way, our customers not only have a carbon positive courier, but can also contribute and make their business a part of the scheme.
