HOW DID HBC LOGISTICS BECOME A CARBON-NEUTRAL BUSINESS?
Due to the nature of our services, it has been extremely difficult for us to have a complete sustainable operation. That’s why, in 2022 we partnered with Carbon Neutral Britain, a leading carbon-offsetting initiative that helps businesses achieve effective sustainable status.
With this partnership, HBC Logistics has been able to contribute to funding worldwide sustainability projects that help less fortunate communities catch up with new equipment and the reviving of the world that will ultimately remove significant levels of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
In addition to this, we are working hard to extend our status into Carbon Negative by investing in local community projects with schools, charities and other organisations. So far, we have donated over £4,000 to organisations to fund their carbon-offsetting projects. If you’re interested in finding out more about our funding, please email marketing@hbclogistics.co.uk
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Every year, we complete a yearly audit to determine how much carbon dioxide has been released into the atmosphere from our operations. This is offset by paying a fee that is used to offset our carbon footprint, as well as fund Carbon Neutral Britain’s sustainability projects all around the world.
Therefore, all customers are automatically enrolled to our Carbon Neutral scheme which includes a 50p per booking fee. Customers can opt out at any time, but won’t be able to benefit from an official participation certificate or having a voice in our local initiative funding.

WHAT IS OUR LOCAL INITIATIVE FUNDING?
Whilst our partnership makes us a Carbon Neutral business, any additional collected fees left over after the annual offset are put towards our internal initiative to support local schools, charities and businesses with their own sustainability projects – as a part of our focus to become Carbon Negative.

Beehive Project – Henlow Academy
Our first project has been with Henlow Academy, supporting their team with fast-forwarding their desire to have their own Beehive Sanctuary on site. In March 2024, we agreed to donate £2,000 to Henlow Academy which has supplied three beehives, the colonies and appropriate equipment to maintain these bees.
Long term, these bees will become an educational opportunity for students to learn through a hands-on experience with bees and their significant purpose, as well as the additional bonus of honey for the cafeteria and food-tech classes. Most importantly, we will contribute to raising the number of bees in our community.

Garden Rejuvenation Project – Sutton V.A Lower
In Summer 2024, Dilara and her team reached out to HBC Logistics for support in revamping their school’s gardening spaces, which were in need of some attention. We were happy to donate £850 to help bring their vision to life.
While the project was initially delayed due to major on-site construction, the extra time allowed Vicky—a dedicated parent and head of the Gardening Club—to plan and prepare.
By Spring 2025, we were thrilled to see the incredible progress they had made! Thanks to our funding, the school was able to create and enhance several garden areas:
Woodland Sensory Garden: A vibrant, interactive space filled with textures and colours, designed to spark imagination and support hands-on learning.
Butterfly Garden: Shaped like a butterfly, these hand-crafted planting beds will soon bloom with colourful flowers.
Vegetable Garden: Now complete with protective fencing and raised beds, this area offers students the chance to grow and learn about fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Bug Village Project – St Swithun’s Primary
We’re proud to support St Swithun’s Primary School in their mission to revitalise their outdoor and gardening spaces by sponsoring eight handcrafted bug hotels.
Created by Wildlife Bird and Care, these bug hotels were personally delivered to the school to help launch their exciting new “Bug Village” garden — a dedicated space being transformed into a safe, interactive environment where students can connect with nature and explore wildlife and gardening hands-on.
Together with the school’s team, we hope these bug hotels will become a popular haven for local insects and other small creatures, offering them a safe place to nest and thrive — and maybe even encouraging a few to “check in” for a longer stay!

Wildlife Area – Biggleswade Academy
This was one of the first carbon-offsetting projects we committed to—and it’s still ongoing work!
What began as an overgrown and nearly unsafe patch of land is now being transformed into a thriving outdoor learning space, thanks to our partnership with Biggleswade Academy. We’ve already funded a tree surgeon to clear away dense weeds and brambles, creating the foundation for a nature trail.
Looking ahead to this summer, we’re planning to organise a volunteer group to help maintain the cleanliness of the space. We’ll also be laying down bark paths and providing resources like bug hotels, wellies, and gardening tools to support both wildlife and hands-on learning for the students.
