On Friday 25th February, HBC’s Managing Director, Ben Weldon, attended the Institution of Couriers’ Fellows Gowning 2022 at Westminister’s House of Lords, to accept his honorary fellowship award.
In recognition of his professional contribution of knowledge, support and dedication to HBC Logistics and the wider industry, Ben was personally chosen and invited to this sophisticated evening and was hereby recognised as a Fellow of the Institution of Couriers. This is an exceptional honour to obtain and we at HBC are super proud of him!
What does it mean to be a fellow?
An IoC fellowship ensures that you are recognised as a quality professional with the necessary levels of academic achievement, experience, training and integrity. The title adds extra value to your courier industry-related skills, further enhancing your career prospects.
Not only will a membership validate your work and give you the edge over the competition, but you will also have access to relevant industry information in Courier News. On a Fellowship level, it means the individual satisfies the IoC’s criteria, which includes holding an approved Masters’s degree and having carried out exceptional services for an express delivery company on or behalf of the industry.
The ceremonial gowning, hosted by the IOC President, Viscount Lord Falkland, was the first event in two years due to COVID-19 restrictions. The ceremony gathered a mix of best practice businesses and apprenticeships all in one room to gown thirty to make a ‘millennium’ of the express final mile, last-mile logistics sector. One gowned being our very own Ben Weldon.
Ben’s Background
Early career choices for Ben started with a supplier for the RAF, a driver for Paints and a Parts Technician for UK Assistance. However, these didn’t fulfil his ambitions and that’s when he found his passion for delivery services – from a Liverpool courier driver to UK Franchise Development Manager, Ben was making moves and eventually found himself at UPS. A pathway of successful deliveries saw Ben achieve new business promotions such as Account Executive, taking responsibility for a team as Area Sales Manager for Northampton and then London before taking on the challenges as UK District Sales Operations Manager. This impressive variety of experience led Ben to take a leap of faith in 2017, as he became one of the founders of his own business, HBC Logistics. Fast forward almost 5 years later, HBC Logistics is one of the UK’s leading courier specialists in Same Day and Dedicated deliveries.
Again, a huge congratulations to our very own Fellow!
