On Tuesday 22nd October 2024, HBC Logistics attended the annual National Courier Awards ceremony at Drapers’ Hall. Hosted by the prestigious Institute of Couriers, we gracefully accepted the Decarbonisation Award for our outstanding efforts in reducing our carbon footprint whilst out on the road.
Every year, the National Courier Awards invites the best of the best within a variety of logistics companies to an evening of award-giving, networking and entertainment at their annual gala event, in celebration of both the organisations and individuals that stand out or make an impact within our pivotal sector.
This year, it has been reported as historically the largest mix of companies ever, from SME’s to national brands all in the same room. This is why one of three HBC Directors, Ben Weldon, who attended the event, was ecstatic to accept and share the news that our same day delivery company has won it’s first NCA Corporate Award for Decarbonisation – an award that represents a full step-change approach to clean air whilst on the road.
Our Sustainability Journey
Back in 2022, HBC Logistics began our journey in sustainability after recognising the increasing concern for logistics and its impact on the environment as the rest of the world begins to “go green”. As a growing company in our sector, we wanted our customers and team to feel confident in their association with HBC Logistics, and trust that we were a courier that cares about our community and its environment in spite of the nature of our services.
Therefore, we partnered up with Carbon Neutral Britain to offset our carbon footprint every year going forward through the contribution of funding third-world sustainability projects all around the world. Meaning, we can continue to deliver our brilliant services knowing we have a secure balance in place. In fact, we actually outweigh that negative impact with our local community projects – which uses the remainder of our collected Carbon Neutral fees for the year to fund amazing carbon-offsetting projects to local schools and businesses. Read more about it here.
This became such a success that we introduced this to our friends at UPN (United Pallet Network) and contributed to creating the first carbon-free pallet network.
Our New Award
The National Courier Awards were well aware of our actions towards becoming a carbon negative company and therefore brought our journey to light. This category of award proves that logistics are going beyond just ULEZ and electric fleets, and HBC Logistics is an exciting example of a company taking big and clear strides towards reducing our footprint at a drastic level.
We have pledged to continue our partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain, as well as working with local businesses, schools and charities to fast-track their sustainability goals. Our current project is with Biggleswade Academy, working to clear an area considered unsafe and overgrown and transform it into a fun learning experience for students to learn about bugs, gardening and more. This was absolutely amazing news and for sure a positive stamp on the 2024 Bingo Card! We hope to continue to reduce our footprint, as well as encourage and support others to do so too.
