DID YOU KNOW HBC LOGISTICS IS A CARBON-NEUTRAL BUSINESS?
A company can be Carbon Neutral if it balances the carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere through its operations with the efforts it makes to absorb or remove from the atmosphere.
How did we do it?
In September 2022, HBC Logistics partnered up with one of the leading carbon-offset initiatives, Carbon Neutral Britain to completely offset our carbon footprint.
Due to the nature of our services, it would be extremely difficult for us to completely prevent the release of carbon dioxide into the air. Thanks to our partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain, we have been able to invest in their worldwide sustainability projects that help less fortunate communities catch up with new equipment and the reviving of the world that will ultimately remove significant levels of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
WHAT IS OUR LOCAL INITIATIVE?
Whilst our partnership makes us a Carbon Neutral business, any additional collected fees left over after the annual offset are put towards our internal initiative to support local schools, charities and businesses with their own sustainability projects – as a part of our focus to become Carbon Negative.
This is a brand new project we have very recently introduced but we are delighted to be planning four potential projects with different schools this Summer.
Beehive Project – Henlow Academy
Our first project has been with Henlow Academy, supporting their team with fast-forwarding their desire to have their own Beehive Sanctuary on site. In March 2024, we agreed to donate £2,000 to Henlow Academy which has supplied three beehives, the colonies and appropriate equipment to maintain these bees.
Long term, these bees will become an educational opportunity for students to learn through a hands-on experience with bees and their significant purpose, as well as the additional bonus of honey for the cafeteria and food-tech classes. Most importantly, we will contribute to raising the number of bees in our community.
Garden Rejuvenation – Sutton V.A Lower School
We are delighted to be helping Sutton V.A. Lower School with a generous £850 donation to fix up their gardens which will be used as a space to educate and embrace wildlife.
Head teacher, Mrs Chapman, commented; “We are incredibly grateful to HBC for their support, encouragement and generosity towards this Butterfly Garden Project. Where school budgets are tight, this grant will be hugely impactful in the creation of an outdoor space where pupils can enjoy and explore nature, a space that allows pupils and the school community to simply be, surrounded with carefully chosen plants and placed objects to encourages reflection, spirituality and promote positive wellbeing.”
Forest Fix-Up – Biggleswade Academy
Biggleswade Academy were daunted by an overgrown, wasted area in their playing field that was in dying need to be put to good use. That’s why we covered the costs of tidying the area (big thanks to AC Contracting Group) so that the area can be paved and decorated for both wildlife rejuvenation and safe learning its students.
This is an ongoing project and in the near future we will be helping Mark and his team transform the area into a thriving learning space. Adjacent to the focused area is a mobile classroom that is pretty much untouched. We are looking to also provide equipment for a potential future gardening club.
